Mild Extraction Update
In order to compare published mild extraction techniques for the analysis of natural organic colourants in textiles and paintings, several extractions where selected and optimized at 5 institutes working with in the joint research activity of work package 10.
In this face of the research the Cultural heritage agency of theNetherlands(OCW-RCE) is working on three extraction techniques.
All three of the extractions consists first a mild polar aprotic solvent extraction followed by an acid extraction.
Eight dyed textiles with different sources are analyzed in threefold at the OCW-RCE using the double step extractions of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) with trifluoroacetic acid, dimethyl sulfoxide with hydrochloric acid and dimethyl sulfoxide with hydrogen fluoriode. This last one has not yet been performed at our facilities due to lack of adequate safety equipment.
We are working on the report and on the protocols. These protocols will be available at the organic-colorants.org website.
